<p>“Despite writing several letters, the BJP led Government continues to refuse to seek the CBI inquiry. I would write again to them requesting to allow the premier investigating agency to investigate the matter in the nation’s interest” Minister said.<br /><br />Speaking to Deccan Herald on the sidelines of the national mineral award distribution ceremony here, the Minister said, as neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has agreed for the CBI inquiry into illegal mining, it would be advantageous to the investigating agency to make foolproof inquiry if Karnataka also allowed the same.<br /><br />A survey conducted by Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) found that 10 mining companies were involved in illegal mining activities in Karnataka and matter had been brought to the notice of the State government. Though the State has promised to stop illegal mining, the Centre wants concrete steps at the ground level, he said.<br /><br />It may be noted that following complaints of rampant illegal mining in many states including in Karnataka, the Minister had written to the State seeking permission to conduct CBI investigation. However Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa refused to give permission saying that the request was politically motivated and the state agencies were competent enough to stop such illegalities.<br /></p>
