Realtor arrested for cheating site aspirants

A realtor was arrested for cheating buyers after collecting money from them and promising them land. The realtor is identified as Srinivas Gowda (44), owner of Sri Durga Properties and Land Developers and Promoters, in E Block Sahakarnagar in north Bengaluru.

According to the police, the Sainik Welfare Organisation India Ltd wanted to ensure sites at affordable rates in Bengaluru for retired officials and families of army officers who died fighting for the country.

The organisation collected Rs 1.9 crore from seven people in 2012 and deposited the money with Gowda for sites and houses. Gowda had promised sites at Sri Durga North City Phase-1, Jala hobli, Marenahalli, Benglauru North taluk. However, Gowda neither allotted the sites nor returned their money, said the police.

Meanwhile, Sunil Kumar Sahu, went through an advertisement by Gowda and fell to his trap. Sahu had paid Gowda Rs 30 lakh for a site, but he was neither alloted the site nor did he get his money back, said the police.

Police produced him before the court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
