Education dept stays appointments in UoM

Last Updated 12 July 2016, 19:28 IST

The Higher Education department has stayed the process of recruitment for 205 teaching faculty, including 55 backlog posts, by the University of Mysore.

Additional chief secretary for Higher Education Bharath Lal Meena has directed the university authorities not to make any direct appointment to fill the vacancies till further directions from the department. He has stated that the university has violated the norms and has initiated the process for direct appointment.

He wrote a letter to Vice Chancellor K S Rangappa in this regard on July 11. The letter states that the SC/ST Committee had issued a standing instruction on January 25, that all direct appointment to government institutions should be stalled till a policy is drawn up for filling up of backlog vacancies. This was brought to the notice of the University of Mysore, but still the authorities have issued the notification for recruitment, the letter notes.

Rangappa said, the objection by the Higher Education department to the recruitment process is true, but it is also true that the UoM had brought the issue to the notice of the committee. Relevant documents will be provided to the department and permission will be sought, he said.
