Playing for a good cause

Bollywood stars and parliamentarians will show their support to government flagship programmes like ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ by participating in ‘Football ka Mahamuqabla’, a high voltage football match in the city next week.

“In a country where football has not been able to achieve due recognition and importance, this match is also an attempt to increase its popularity among the public. Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi’s speech on Mann Ki Baat on March 24 also highlighted the same, and that too has been one of the major motivations for organising this match,” said Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manoj Tiwari, who is also the vice captain of the Madhya Pradesh’s team in the competition.

“Moreover India may get to host the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2017 which makes it even more important for us to encourage the sport and native footballers,” he adds.

The Bollywood team will be lead by actor Abhishek Bachchan, while Babul Supriyo will lead the MP’s team. Actor Dino Morea, who is going to play from team Bollywood said he is delighted to be given the opportunity to participate, and will do his bit for the cause.
Profits accumulated from this match will be used for the initiatives.

The competition will take place at 7 pm on July 24 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Surbhi Kak
