MLA cries foul over cow slaughter, assault on dalits

Last Updated 26 July 2016, 19:26 IST

MLA D N Jeevaraj said that there is a strong network of illegal migrants from Bangladesh working in coffee estates and supply of beef to Assamese labourers operating in the district. Some Congress leaders are leading this network, he charged.

Briefing mediapersons after releasing photographs related to slaughtering of a cow and assault on dalits at Kundoor Shanthipura in Koppa taluk here on Tuesday, he said a cow, belonging to Suresh Niduvane in Kundoor Shanthipura, was stolen on July 10. The police failed to receive complaint on the stolen cow.

Acting on a tip-off from Bajrang Dal members, the Jayapura police raided the house of Muttappa at Shanthipura Colony on the night of July 10 and the police arrested three persons. However, following the instigation by the Congress leaders, a false case was filed under provisions of SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against seven Bajrang Dal members, by the accused who were part of cow slaughtering.

Bajrang Dal members Sampath, Manju and Annu had accompanied the police to show the spot where cow was slaughtered by the accused. The remaining four persons who were named in atrocity case were not in town when the incident occurred. No one was assaulted at the spot. “Following the instigation by Congress leaders, the accused have filed a false case against Bajrang Dal activists. The photographs released were a witness to ensure that accused in cow slaughter were not assaulted. If one removes the bandage of the accused, the truth will come before the world,” he claimed.

Jeevaraj said people in Malnad live in harmony. In the last three years, nine cases under provisions of SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were filed in Jayapura police station. Those who lost the election are instigating the people to file false complaint, he claimed.
“I have lost faith in the state government on getting justice. The home minister who is also the district in-charge minister should look into the injustice happening in the district,” he demanded.
