Mystery shrouds double murder at Ranhola area

Last Updated 07 August 2016, 05:00 IST

A man and a woman were found murdered at the latter’s house in West Delhi’s Ranhola area on Saturday morning.

While the body of Rajesh Kumar, 45, was found from the terrace of the house, Sunita Devi’s body was lying in a room of the ground floor. Rajesh was a close friend of Sunita’s deceased husband, the police said.

Police have refused robbery as a possible cause of murders as no articles were found missing from the house. Police suspect that there was a friendly entry and the killer was known to the victims.

Sunita used to live in a rented house in Vikas Nagar’s J block in the first floor of the building where the bodies were found. Rajesh was married and used to drive bus for a living.

They both were attacked with a sharp object and their bodies bore multiple injury marks. According to police, Kumar’s face was also crushed with a heavy object.

The matter came to the fore when a man, whose under-construction house adjoins the woman’s from behind, came on the roof of his house in the morning to oversee the work and found a blood-splattered body lying on the neighbouring roof.

He immediately called up police and told them about the matter. When the police arrived at the house they found another body lying in a room in the first floor.

According to police, Sunita had rented the house six months back and Rajesh used to come at her house often. Sunita’s husband Ram Kumar had died ten years back due to over drinking, and since then Rajesh started visiting her house frequently.

On Friday evening also they both were together and had returned from the market after shopping.

According to sources, they were also seen sitting together on the building’s roof in the night.

Police have found empty liquor bottles and packets of snacks near Rajesh’s body.
Prima facie, police suspect that there was a friendly entry as according to neighbours whenever a visitor used to come to meet Sunita he or she would inform her beforehand about his arrival through phone after which she used to go to the ground floor and open the door.

Sunita had three children - two married daughters and a 15-year-old son, who lived with one of the sisters. Sunita’s younger daughter had come to visit her five months back. She had been living with her mother for the last five months but on the day of murder she had gone to a relative’s house.

Meanwhile, police are questioning all the relatives of both the deceased to find out the possible causes of the murders. From property dispute to love affair, all the possible angles are being explored to reach to the killers, police said.

CCTV footage of the area is also being scanned to find out clues of the possible killer.
