Minister for Medical Education Sharanprakash R Patil said on Thursday that he had given a week’s time to the BMRCL to submit a report on the damages  caused to the Vani Vilas Hospital due to the ongoing Metro work.

After examining the ward which had developed cracks, Patil said the BMRCL will have to pay for the repairs. Metro chief Pradeep Singh Kharola, who was present during the minister's visit, assured the hospital authorities that the repair works in the ward would begin soon. The S R Block ward which had about 60 beds and had developed cracks due to the ongoing Metro work, was shut down on Thursday.

At least 40 patients who were being treated in the ward, were shifted to a different ward in the hospital. This in turn, has led to a space crunch in the hospital.

“Since there was a problem with the other ward, the patients have been shifted here. There is hardly any space to move around,” remarked Vijaya, a patient. As soon as the cracks were noticed, the X-Ray and the ultrasound scanning sections were shifted to a different location, said Dr P K Devdas, director, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute. The sections would be moved back once the ward was repaired, he added.
