Rs 10 lakh for kin of firing victim

The Bengaluru Urban district administration has decided to give a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the next to the kin of Umesh (28), who was killed in police firing on Monday while protesting against the Cauvery water sharing dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Urban district V Shankar said the state government will provide education up to the college level to Umesh's children. Regarding a job to the next to the kin of the deceased, Shankar said the state government has to take a call on that.

Regarding Kumar, who too succumbed to injuries on Tuesday afternoon in a private hospital, Shankar said he is awaiting confirmation on whether he died during the protest.

The final rites of Umesh were performed at Singonahalli in Kunigal taluk of Tumakuru district on Tuesday.
