Spurned by boy, teen kills self

Upset over being repeatedly ignored by a boy, a class 12 student committed suicide at her school in north Delhi’s Model Town area on Friday.

The 17-year-old girl drank “toilet-cleaning chemical” at her school’s toilet and fainted, police said. She was rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where she died during treatment.

In a suicide note found in her bag, the girl had written that she loved a boy who never reciprocated her feelings.

The note said on Thursday, she had called the boy twice but he told her to never call him again. According to sources, the girl went into depression after that, which led to the extreme step.

The incident occurred at the Girls Senior Secondary High School in Model Town-3 on Friday morning. The girl went to the toilet around 8.30 am and drank the toilet-cleaning chemical and fainted there.

When fellow students noticed the unconscious girl lying in the toilet, the principal was informed. The school administration admitted her to the Babu Jagjivan Ram hospital. She died there in the afternoon.

During investigation, the police checked her bag and found a suicide note in it.Police have handed over the body to the girl’s parents after the post-mortem.

“At this point we don’t know  what exactly caused her death. She apparently drank some toilet-cleaning chemical and fainted. We are awaiting the post-mortem report which will ascertain the exact reason,” said a police officer.

The police might also question the boy whom the girl allegedly loved and had called a day before her death.
