New Year’s Eve molestations echoed at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on Sunday with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah telling the audience that perpetrators of the crime will be brought to book.

The molestation issue had come as an embarrassment to the state government at a time when delegates from across the world and the country were arriving in Bengaluru to attend PBD-2017.

Siddaramaiah voluntary raised the issue in his address. “The recent unpleasant incidents in Bengaluru concerning assaults on women have been viewed very seriously. The government is committed to bringing the perpetrators to book,” he said. Steps will be taken to increase the conviction rate in such cases, he added

Siddaramaiah said the changes in visa rules by the UK and the US had affected the movement of skilled workers across borders, and sought concessions for NRIs and PIOs in the budget scheduled for February 1.
