The Army’s Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area organised the Rashtriya Ekta (national unity) run on Sunday to boost its public image as part of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.

The seven-kilometre-long run was flagged off at Cubbon Park by Major General KS Nijjar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area. It provided an opportunity for people to reconnect with Bengaluru’s heritage. But there was more to it than just the run. ‘Know Your Army’, an exhibition of different kinds of rifles, bomb disposal equipment and other weapons, at Cubbon Park drew a large crowd. Many visitors took selfies with the items on display. The exhibition was aimed at motivating the youth to join the armed forces, according to the organisers.

The concert by the military band attracted people from different walks of life such as army, air force, police, members of running clubs, fitness enthusiasts, schoolchildren, NCC cadets and IT professionals. Major General Nijjar presented the medals to the winners in different categories of the run.
