SU clinch thrilling victory

Forward Praveen KT curled in a superb winner in the stoppage time to help Students Union eke out a thrilling 3-2 win over favourites Ozone FC in the BDFA Super Division league at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Tuesday.

In the fifth minute of the injury time, SU midfielder Michael’s pass from the back found midfielder Akshay in the field, who, under pressure from opponent’s players, laid a through pass to Praveen, lurking in the left flank. Praveen, unmarked at the edge of the box, put in a sublime effort to place the ball past the diving Ozone goalkeeper Ishwar Debrath into the top corner of the net.

Earlier, Ozone had made a good comeback to level the scores through forward Akshay Dosapati’s second goal in the 89th minute. Mark Anthony’s cross from the right found midfielder Vignesh G, who squared it for Akshay.

The forward made no mistake and flicked it home with a backheel past the SU goalkeeper Vishnu. After a sluggish first period, which hardly witnessed any goalmouth action, the game came alive in the second.

Ozone, despite their dominance, conceded the opener through a counter-attack in the 50th minute.  SU forward Emmanuel made a darting run down the left to beat his marker and placed a perfectly weighted pass for striker Sudhir, who slammed it past ’keeper Debrath.

SU could have doubled their advantage in the 59th minute when Michael lofted a long ball to Praveen, whose penetrating pass from the left to Emmanuel almost did the trick but the striker shot it straight to the Ozone custodian, who parried it away.
However, SU weren’t to be denied again as Emmanuel put the ball past Debrath from the resultant corner in the 61st minute.

Ozone, however, didn’t back down and continued to press for the goals. They were rewarded for their efforts in the 70th minute when Akshay tapped-in his first from a fine cross from substitute Vignesh.

In the ‘A’ Division, Shivakumar (25th minute) and Karthgeyan (46th minute) netted for Income Tax as they beat BUFC 2-0.
