Deputy Commissioner Dr K G Jagadeesha said citizens should accord priority to discipline and cleanliness in both personal and social lives to be a part of development.

He was speaking at Thruthiya Sopana of Bharat Scouts and Guides Karnataka district unit at Town Hall in the city on Sunday.

The DC said the reason why the European countries have developed more compared to India is that the citizens of those countries have been giving importance to discipline, health consciousness and cleanliness. “Even though there is no dearth of knowledge and natural resources in India, we have been lagging behind in development,” he said.

He added that the Scouts and Guides in the district have been striving well to achieve the objective of making the students global citizens by inculcating social values among them.

Bharat Scouts and Guides Karnataka state chief commissioner P G R Sindhia made an appeal to the district administration to provide land  for a national-level centre to train the Rovers and Rangers in water activities.

“There is a shortage of divers and we have been depending upon the divers from other states. If the Rovers and Rangers are trained to be divers, their service can be made use of during calamities. It is important to have the training centre in the coastal area. The Scouts and Guides training helps students in inculcating serving attitude, he added.

Award certificates were presented to the Scouts, Guides, Bulbuls, Rovers and Rangers who have passed the examinations Swarna Gari and Nipun.
