Hemavathi river cleaning campaign on February 19

 Human Rights Forum, in association with like-minded organisations, is organising a ‘Nadi Habba’, Hemavathi River cleaning campaign on February 19.

Addressing reporters, here, convener of the forum Mari Joseph said, Hemavathi River is the life line of the people of Hassan and 60 lakh litres of water is being supplied to Hassan city. But, the City Municipal Council is not according priority to cleanliness.

Due to dumping of waste plastic, cremation and burial of bodies along the banks of the river, the water has been polluted rendering the river water unfit for domestic use, he said.

President of Samagra Foundation David Kumar said, due to lack of rains, nine waterbodies out of ten in the city have dried up and there will be severe scarcity of drinking water. He said, similar campaigns would be organised five times in a year.
