Following a series of ongoing political clashes involving Kerala’s ruling CPM and the Sangh Parivar outfits, three members of the RSS were injured in an attack suspected to be by CPM members in the district of Kozhikode.

The incident happened in Keezhariyur village on Saturday.

RSS mandal karyavahak Sudheesh (23) and two of his relatives, Bineesh and Rahul, were injured in the attack by a gang of about 10 armed men.

Sudheesh sustained injuries on his face and legs. The injured were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode. The police said the injuries were “not serious”.

Rejilesh, a local CPM activist, has been arrested in connection with the incident, Inspector Unnikrishnan, Koyilandy Circle, told DH on Sunday. “The other suspects are being zeroed in on and we hope to make more arrests in the case over the next few days,” he said.

The incident happened a day after a crude bomb was hurled at an RSS office near Nadapuram in the district, leaving four BJP members injured. An hour later, in what is suspected as a retaliatory attack, a CPM office in Vishnumangalam was set on fire.

Recurring violence
With three incidents of political violence having taken place in just two days, Kozhikode is hitting the headlines typically reserved for Kannur, where the two rival camps have been engaged in a decades-long violent battle for clout.
