'Health camp for farmers every Wednesday'

Speaking at the ‘Health Camp-2010’ organised by Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee in association with Indian Red Cross Society and KMC Hospital, Manipal, for the farmers followed by the information camp on various schemes and programmes of Horticulture Department here on Wednesday, he said that the main health problem of the farmers in the region is malnutrition. They are anaemic resulting in high and low blood pressure, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, APMC President Vijay Kumar Udyavar said that a proposal, urging support price for coconut, has been sent for government. The Rs 4 support price declared by the government is not adequate. It should be raised to atleast Rs 7. The farmers are under debt and the government should lend support to the farmer to get rid of the crisis, he added.

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the marketing building was also held on the occasion.

Former Director of Bharath Cooperative Bank, Mumbai, Jaya C Suvarna, Horticulture Department Assistant Director Narendra Babu, Krishi Samaj President Subhashith Kumar, Dr Ashwini Kumar from Community Medicine Department, KMC, Dr Nityanand Nayak from Prasad Nethralaya and others were present.
