He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by the state Governor M C Bhandare at a simple function held at the Orissa High Court premises in Cuttack.
Justice Gopala Gowda took over from justice I M Quddusi who was functioning as the acting chief justice of the Orissa High Court and has already been transferred to neighbouring Chhattisgarh High Court as a judge.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and his cabinet colleagues including law minister Bikram Arukh, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Bhupinder Singh and senior bureaucrats, besides justice Gopala Gowda’s family members.
