BJP leader Tarun Vijay’s remarks on south Indians continued to evoke condemnation with senior Congress MP P Chidambaram on Saturday asking whether BJP-RSS members were the only Indians in the country.

Vijay landed in the eye of the storm after telling a TV channel that Indians cannot be called racist as they live with those from south India who are “blacks”. Later, he apologised for his remarks, saying his words perhaps were not enough to convey what he wanted to.

“When Tarun Vijay said ‘we live with blacks’, I ask him who is ‘we’? Was he referring to BJP/RSS members as the only Indians?” Chidambaram, who hails from Tamil Nadu, asked on Twitter.

Vijay, a former Rajya Sabha MP who was also the editor of RSS mouthpiece Panchajanya, faced a barrage of criticism on social media too, with many ridiculing him for seeking to defend India against charges of racism following attacks on African students.
