AIADMK warring factions further initiate patch up measures

Last Updated 18 April 2017, 15:38 IST
After late night drama on Monday with regard to the possible merger of two AIADMK warring factions, AIADMK Amma Deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran, who was out of the city, returned and was briefed about the developments on Tuesday.

Soon after the discussion, the AIADMK Amma camp sources said that it has formed a committee comprising senior leaders to hold talks with the Panneerselvam camp for uniting both the factions.

However, Rajya Sabha MP V Maitreyan, who is with the rebel leader and former chief minister O Panneerselvam's camp, made it very clear that his group will initiate talks only after jailed V K Sasikala and her nephew Dinakaran side-lined from the party.

Going one step further, Panneerselvam, who met the presspersons in Theni district, also asserted that even if the talks were initiated, his camp will not compromise with their principles including conducting judicial enquiry into mystery surrounding the death of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa.

"Also a family cannot rule the party", apparently referring to Sasikala and Dinakaran, who took over AIADMK soon after Jayalalithaa's death.

Meanwhile, as part of a 'Day at Sea' organised by the Indian Navy on board the P-15A Guided Missile Destroyer 'INS Chennai', a majority of the ministers and MLAs of the AIADMK were taken into the sea on a leisure trip.

Fisheries and Finance Minister D Jayakumar, who was also on board the warship, said there will not any political talks during the journey.
