Family sources said Kempaiah (73) had been exercising his franchise in all elections. On Sunday, despite the blazing sun, he went to the polling booth in the Vrushabhavathi ward to vote. But Kempaiah had shock when the returning officer at the polling booth of informed him that the voters list did not contain his name.
The retired policeman had a heated exchange of words with the returning officer, but to no avail. With a heavy heart, Kempaiah returned home and moments later, he suffered a cardiac arrest and died. A native of Jodi Hosahalli in Kunigal, Kempaiah was preparing for a village festival the next Friday. He planned to go much earlier but stayed back to cast his vote.
