Govt asked to depute senior grade officer to probe issue
Last Updated 04 May 2017, 18:57 IST

Deputy Commissioner G Satyavati is ready for a probe, following a complaint against herself and joint director of the Agriculture Department alleging disparity in distributing relief to the next of kin of a farmer who committed suicide.

Speaking to media persons in this regard, the officer said that she has requested the government to depute a senior grade officer to conduct the probe, with the district-level officials in the dock.

Substantiating her decision to request a probe by a senior officer, the deputy commissioner said, it would be inappropriate to vet into the complaint on her own. The complainant in the case (Sachin Meega, a Congress leader) has also demanded for suspension of officials. She refused to comment further on the complaint made by Meega, state president of Kisan cell of KPCC, but rubbished his allegations over disparity. Meega has complained to the government against the assistant director for turning down the plea for relief, following the suicide of a farmer, she said.

Open defecation-free
On making the district total open defecation-free, the deputy commissioner said that the district administration is doing its best in this regard, with Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr R Ragapriya effectively executing the plans towards achieving progress.

Except for two taluks in the district, still not rid of open defecation, the awareness level among the people in other parts of the district is better, said Satyavati.

To create legal awareness among farm workers, with most people working in coffee plantations, the officer said a legal awareness programme has been organised at SP’s office on Saturday. The focus is more on underage girls working in plantations and the Labour Department officials have been told to visit plantations and create awareness against child labour. The issue has also been discussed with coffee planters, she added.

On the demand for building a water tank on the jail premises at Ratnagiri Bore, an elevated place in the district, the deputy commissioner said, it has been decided to build the tank adjacent to the jail. The decision was taken only after exploring safety measures during the spot visit along with the district magistrate. The tank will be built under Atalji Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transmission (Amrut) scheme.

The deputy commissioner said, some of the locals have demanded for building a tank inside the garden at Ratnagiri Bore.

To a question on allocating land for pepper board, deputy commissioner said that the district administration is ready to consider the demand. However, there is no demand in this regard from both state and Central governments, she clarified.
