The district BJP has alleged that the Congress governance has utterly failed to handle the water crisis, which the town is confronting.

Speaking to media persons, the BJP district president Mattar Ratnakar Hegde said that unscientific management of water in the reservoirs has led to the grim situation, where the town is experiencing acute shortage of water. He alleged that for 15 days, the town is not able to receive water.

Besides, the district hospital is in a bad condition and become totally unhygienic. “Adding to the woes, the hospital is not receiving water since eight days. The assurance by the district in-charge minister to upgrade the hospital has remained mere a dream. Expenditure of Rs 500 crore on the impending proposal is nothing but lip service,” censured Hegde.

Sand policy

“A separate sand policy for the coastal district has also remained false, as the government is not taking any initiative in the direction. The sand mafia has added to the water woes. The Congress party workers are digging trenches in the name of hauling out the water. In the process, they receive 400-500 bags of sand which they transport illegally,” he complained.

Hegde said that the Varahi irrigation project has failed to irrigate the farm land in the surrounding. It would be utter nuisance to claim that the Varahi irrigation project would be used to offer water in the Udupi Assembly constituency. The district in-charge minister should be held directly responsible for the problems, he reiterated.

Hegde said that former chief minister Yeddyurappa would inaugurate the BJP district executive committee meeting on May 13 at Byndoor. Yeddyurappa would also inspect the ongoing construction works taken up under funds released from centre like Gangolli break water and some of the villages that are adopted by the central government. The meeting would also plan on the poll strategies for the impending assembly elections, Hegde added.

Elaborating on the programmes designed to commemorate the birth centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, the BJP leader said that programmes like women’s conferences, promotional programmes and sports tournaments at district and block-levels are being organised.

“Afforestation programme is taken up on the occasion. The programmes are already launched from 2016. The celebrations would culminate on September 25, 2017. The
yearlong celebrations would introduce many political programmes and also cultural sports activities. Many youths have come forward to take up promotional activities of the party ideologies right from the grass root level,” he said.
