<div align="justify">Fair price depot owners have approached the High Court of Karnataka challenging the government’s decision to insist on fair price shop owners using PoS (point of sale) machines for distribution of food grains. <br /><br />Lakshmi and 35 other fair price depot owners from Chikkamagaluru moved the court challenging the government order making it compulsory for them to instal PoS machines from May.<br /><br /> The government had also passed an order on providing training to fair price depot owners to operate PoS machines. The government order says that fair price depots which instal PoS machines are entitled to commission of Rs 87 per quintal and the fair price depots which do not instal PoS machines are entitled to a commission of Rs 13 per ration card. <br /><br />The petitioners argued that fixing different rates of commission is discriminatory and is in violation of Article 14 (equality before law) of the Constitution.<br /><br /></div>
