Parvathamma's health deteriorates, put on ventilator

Film producer Parvathamma Rajkumar was, on Thursday, put on ventilator after her health deteriorated. She is being treated by a team of five doctors at the intensive care unit of M S Ramaiah Hospital. The 77-year-old wife of matinee idol, the late Dr Rajkumar, was shifted to the hospital about a week ago following respiratory problems. 

Parvathamma is suffering from respiratory problems, kidney failure and cancer. “Her condition will be critical as long as she is on ventilator,” Dr Naresh Shetty told reporters. He, however, said Parvathamma’s vital organs were normal. Her blood pressure is also normal. “The next 48 hours are extremely crucial,” he said.

Parvathamma may undergo a dialysis procedure as she is suffering from partial renal failure. “Her kidneys have been partially damaged and she needs dialysis any time now. Doctors will take a call on that,” he said.
A team of doctors comprising a physician, nephrologist, oncologist, pulmonologist and intensivist is constantly monitoring her.

Parvathamma’s eldest son and actor Shivrajkumar said his mother would be critical till she was taken off the ventilator. “Actually, she is better on Thursday compared to the previous day. As of now, there is nothing to worry,” he said.

Her second son Raghavendra Rajkumar said, “She is in safe hands and all she needs is prayers.” Members of Rajkumar’s family held an emergency press conference to clarify about Parvathamma’s health after a website reported that she was no more. She had been hospitalised on March 7 for high diabetes and low blood pressure. Later, she was discharged.

Bengaluru city police commissioner Praveen Sood, KFCC chairman Sa Ra Govindu and members of Rajkumar’s family and relatives visited the hospital. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had visited the hospital on Tuesday and had wished her speedy recovery.

Parvathamma has produced over 75 movies under the banners Vajreshwari Combines and Poornima Enterprises, featuring Rajkumar and their three sons Shivrajkumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar and Puneeth Rajkumar.  She introduced popular actresses like Sudharani, Malashree, Prema, Rakshita and Ramya.
