Port and Public Works Department (PWD) officials have been directed to submit a proposal for Rs 5 crore to work on arresting sea erosion from Someshwara to Kotepura.

Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader told officials at a review meeting that a permanent solution to the problem is being undertaken at Rs 223 crore, but the work will take more time for completion. There is also shortage of funds to take up emergency work on the stretch, he said and directed the officials to submit a proposal for Rs 5 crore. A proposal seeking exemption for emergency work should be sought.

Khader took the NHAI project director Samson Vijay and Navayug staff to task for the assault on motorists at the Talapady toll plaza. He directed officials to book cases against the toll plaza manager if motorists were assaulted in future.

Road work incomplete

Following complaints of the NHAI failing to complete the road work even after toll collection was started at Talapady, Khader directed the NHAI to complete the work at the earliest.

DHO Dr Ramakrishna Rao said that the district has about 3,694 endosulfan victims, of whom 3,011 have been getting monthly pension. About 1,096 victims did not get pension for six months in 2015. The government has been submitted a proposal for the amount.

Khader said some fake endosulfan victims have joined the real beneficiaries. There is a need for a resurvey of the victims to identify the genuine victims and hand them certificates.
