Bihar liquor manufacturers allowed to export old stocks

Last Updated 08 June 2017, 20:13 IST

The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed Bihar liquor manufacturers to export their old stocks worth over Rs 200 crore outside the state by July 31.

A vacation bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and Deepak Gupta modified the previous order of May 29, which allowed manufacturers to destroy the stocks within the state.

On a plea by the manufacturers, the court said there were sufficient grounds to allow their plea for clarification on the order passed on May 29.

The applicants contended that there were two options of  destruction of old stocks and export, but the May 29 order only spoke about destruction.

Court had earlier extended the deadline for disposing of the stocks from May 31 to July 31.
