Karnataka, Siemens sign MoU for skill development

The Karnataka government on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding with Siemens for setting up of centre of excellence in Dandeli, Mysuru, Bengaluru and Kalaburgi.

The centres will be set up at the sub-centres of the Government Tool Room and Training Centre in these cities, the government said in a statement.

According to a press statement, the total cost of the project is Rs 2,031.80 crore. Of this, Siemens Industry Software, India will contribute Rs 1,822.48 crore and the state government will put in remaining Rs 219.32 crore.

Under this programme, advanced training will be imparted in the domains of automotive, aerospace and defence, industrial machinery and renewable energy. In the first two years, Siemens Industry Software will run the centres. During the subsequent year, the company will assist Government Tool Room and Training Centre to run the centres. Later, it will handover the centre to the GTTCs.

This will result in providing advanced world class skill training to 25,000 to 30,000 youths in the state annually and contributes in providing skilled manpower to industries, the statement added. Chief minister Siddaramaiah and minister for large and medium industries R V Deshpande were present on the occasion.
