Actor Srujan Lokesh didn’t need any lessons in acting because he grew up watching his parents’ films and his grandfather’s exploits in theatre. Grandson of theatre titan M V Subbaiah Naidu and son of Sandalwood actors Lokesh and Girija, Srujan began his career as a child artiste and swiftly moved to bagging lead roles.

He has also forayed into television, with his latest show ‘Majaa Talkies’. On the big screen, the actor will be seen playing the role of a young office-goer in ‘Happy Journey’ which released today. In an interview with Nina C George, Srujan talks about the making of ‘Happy Journey’ and his preference for realistic subjects.

What made you accept ‘Happy Journey’?

The script is what clinched the deal. The story deals with issues that people face at work on a daily basis. The characters in the film take the audience through internal politics, rivalry and hatred in offices. The story showcases the journey of many people who are stuck in odd situations. It also throws light on the insensitivity of people, like when they take selfies at accident spots, instead of helping the victims.

Tell us about your character?

My character is called Arya. I portray the role of an office-goer and highlight the changing culture at work places. The hero has two introductions in the film so I had to portray different emotions and change my body language to suit different situations. I am confident about the character and the script because it has a lot of variety.

Does it pay to be choosy when it comes to work?

I have always been choosy because I don’t believe in the number game. I have learnt from the mistakes I have made in the past and don’t want to repeat it. I would like to work on projects of quality.

How do you manage to make your show ‘Majaa Talkies’ so lively?

That is a secret that I can’t give away. Ours has been the longest running show in the history of Indian television and we owe that success to our spontaneity.

Funny things your fans expect from you?

My fans expect me to walk, talk and behave the way I do on my television show, even in real life. I always tell them that reality is different from what they see on the small screen.
