Yelachenahalli-Anjanapura Metro likely by Dec 2018

The Metro is likely to ply to Anjanapura Township from December next year as civil works on the extension from Yelachenahalli will be completed by March, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George said on Friday.

Briefing reporters after inspecting the 6.6-km stretch, George said most of the on-site work, which is susceptible to traffic conditions on the busy Kanakapura road, has been completed. “The stretch has five stations. I have been informed that civil works will be completed by March. We have tentatively decided to run trains on this route from December next year,” George said.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) managing director Pradeep Singh Kharola said the elevated stretch can be further extended to Kanakapura in future. “We are taking into consideration possible future needs.”

He said the elevated stretch, which forms 60 km of the 72 km in Phase 2, can be built faster than the remaining underground section. “Work on Byappanahalli-Whitefield corridor has picked up speed after we settled some land acquisition issues,” he said.
