After sealing their AFC Asian Cup berth with a 4-1 win against Macau at the Sree Kanteerava stadium on a drizzly Wednesday, skipper Sunil Chhetri said he was looking forward to making the most of playing stronger opponents in the main draw.

Chhetri, who was also a part of the Indian side that featured in the 2011 edition was of the opinion that big tournaments like this will only make the side stronger and raise the bar.

“In the 2011 edition, we faced Bahrain, Australia and South Korea. Sad to say, but after that, we haven’t got the chance to face them again.

That is why it is vital to qualify for big tournaments like this. Gives us the opportunity to test ourselves against strong opponents. You never know when you will play them again.”

Coach Stephen Constantine had high praise for his wards after another dominant display. “The results that this team have achieved says it all. This is probably the best team we have had in the recent few years.”
