Layouts in Madikeri are devoid of basic facilities

Amidst the beauty of nature, the residents of Madikeri have been suffering from pot-holed roads, improper streetlights, row over garbage disposal and lack of cleanliness of roads.

The residents of Indira and Chamundeshwari Nagara have been living in fear. The two layouts are situated on a sloppy area. The residents had constructed houses by leveling the hillocks. However, the two layouts are devoid of basic facilities.

"When the civic body has failed to provide basic facilities in the heart of the city, how will they provide facilities in sloppy region?" ask the residents.

There are no proper streetlights near Raja seat and Stone Hill areas. The surface of concrete roads has been chipped off and residents find it difficult to even carry essential commodities to their houses.

Auto-drivers and people from the labour class reside in these layouts. "We can only take our two-wheelers on the road. No heavy vehicles can reach the houses. We park the vehicles at a distance and there is the possibility of miscreants damaging the vehicles," said auto-driver Santhu Poojary.

"The solar street lights have become defunct and the roads become slippery during monsoon" said the residents.

CMC officials said: "It is not possible to lay good roads in these two layouts. The leveling of the hillocks will damage the already constructed houses."
