Zilla Panchayat CEO Shivanand Kapashi said that humans should respect each other's birthrights, besides protecting their own, which would be the true upholding of human rights.

He was speaking after inaugurating the World Human Rights Day organised by the District Legal Service Authority and the Udupi Bar Association.

The Zilla Panchayat CEO said that Constitution has assured rights to all citizens, irrespective of caste, religion and status. "However, it is up to the individuals to conserve their rights. Every individual should have awareness of human rights and also respect other's rights. When human rights are conserved and respected, the peace and harmony will prevail in the society. Humans have the most complex society of any creature on earth, which means we extend self-preservation beyond personal physical survival. We live in extremely complex and interdependent societies, where people live together in groups for mutual aid and protection, wherein the conservation of human rights is essential," he added.

Additional Police Superintendent Kumarachandra said that the awareness over the punishment on the violation of human rights should be created among mass along with the awareness of human rights.

District Legal Service Authority member secretary judge Latha administered the oath on the occasion.
