EC notice to Rahul for poll code breach

Last Updated 09 May 2014, 21:15 IST

The Election Commission on Friday issued a show cause notice to Rahul Gandhi for his alleged remark at Solan, in Himachal Pradesh, on May 1 that 22,000 people would be killed if Narendra Modi becomes prime minister after the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

The Commission has asked the Congress vice president to respond to the notice by May 12, saying that if he does not present his case by 11 am on Monday, the poll panel will take further action without further reference.

The BJP had lodged a complaint with the EC alleging that Rahul had made a highly provocative statement against its prime-ministerial candidate.

Meanwhile, the commission on Friday ordered further investigation into Rahul’s alleged entry into the polling stations in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, on May 7.
