The Winter Session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly was off to a stormy start on Thursday with the Opposition members disrupting proceedings in protest against the proposed law to check organised crime and hike in power tariff and forced adjournment of the House till Friday.
Samajwadi Party (SP) members, who carried posters and banners denouncing the hike and the deteriorating law and order situation, trouped into the Well of the House as soon it assembled demanding a discussion on their notices.
Speaker Hriday Narain Dixit's appeal to the SP members to return to their seats fell on deaf ears forcing him to adjourn the house for 15 minutes.
SP members continued sloganeering when the House reassembled following which the speaker adjourned it for the day.
SP leader Ram Govind Chaudhary demanded withdrawal of the hike in power tariff and also to scrap the decision to enact a law to check organised crime saying that it would be used to suppress the Oposition's voice.
