Police are likely to put barricades on Brigade Road on New Year's Eve to prevent possible molestation of women.
The 'gender-based barricade arrangement' is the police's strategy to avert untoward incidents like the alleged mass molestation last year. The high court recently pulled up the police for not ensuring the safety of revellers.
Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar told DH: "We are considering all options, including putting barricades for men and women. A decision will be taken by Tuesday or Wednesday. We will inform the press."
On Saturday, members of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad combed Brigade Road as part of the security drill for New Year's Eve.
