Water woes get serious in Tarikere

Last Updated 04 January 2018, 16:23 IST

People are made to suffer because of the errors committed by the Town Municipal Council in drinking water supply.

The people have therefore urged the administration to carry out immediate measures.

The water in Manasikere is almost empty. Water from Bhadra River is stored in the lake. People of Davanagere had urged the Bhadra River Basin Authority to supply them water from Bhadra River in summer instead of rainy season. Following this, the water supply to the lake was stopped, the officials said.

Problem in wards

The water for the town was procured from Bhadra River since a long time. But, now, as the river is getting empty, many wards in Tarikere are being deprived of water supply for the last one week.

People are fed up of listening to various reasons such as power deficit, non-functioning of motor and damage of pipes. All these have resulted in the lack of clean drinking water.

Even though there are 111 hand pumps and mini water supply units, the technical malfunctions take place every now and then. The people have urged the district administration to implement a project for permanent drinking water supply to the town.

Tarikere Town Municipal Council acting president T G Ashok Kumar quoted the officials saying that water from Bhadra River will be supplied to the lake for 105 days starting from January 5. The water will be supplied to the city once in two days, he added.
