Surprisingly, a similar tunnel was found even when the land was dug out to lay the drainage for the toilet, about a month ago. The tunnels have become a cause of worry to Ramesh Achary, the owner of the house.

The site was allocated to Ramesh Achary under Indira Awas Yojana and he has taken a loan of Rs 1 lakh for the construction of the house.

However, a sum of Rs 10,000 has been given to him for the foundation work. While Ramesh is suffering from illness, the construction supervision is done by his wife Sulochana.
Since there is nobody to guide the family, they have not submitted any application to get compensation from GP or Taluk Panchayat either. However, Sulochana says that some people from the GP had visited the spot.

Legal hitches

Padangady Panchayat Village Accountant Naveen informed Deccan Herald that compensation can be provided only if the house is damaged. There are no clauses wherein compensation can be given to a house which is under construction. He said that PWD will have to prepare estimation of loss and the same will be sent to revenue dept. Amidst this, the Achary family is left high and dry. The house will surely collapse during the rains, say many. Since the tunnel reaches two houses, both the houses are under threat and both the families do not know what to do next.
