Nil response for bandh in DK, Udupi

The bandh call given in connection with the Mahadayi river water dispute, had nil response in Dakshina Kannada as well as Udupi district.

The functioning of the public and private transport and all other outlets was normal. Schools and colleges too functioned as usual. No untoward incidents were reported too.

In a press meet in Udupi, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) Chalapathi faction president Adi Bhaskar said that the bandh call is not justifiable. The fight for Mahadayi water issue is righteous. However, the bandh disturbs the normal life. Moreover, the issue is in the court and the protest call seems to be illogical at this juncture. The peaceful way of the fight seems meaningful and the agitators should be handling the issue carefully as the matter is sensitive. The solution should be found amicably keeping in mind the difficulties of the farmers, he stressed.
