Vatal Nagaraj of Kannada Okkuta on Wednesday said Bengaluru bandh will be called on February 4 if the state BJP leaders fail to get assurance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on resolving the Mahadayi issue.

Speaking to reporters, Nagaraj if the BJP leaders fail to give the assurance by February 3, then Bengaluru bandh will be observed on the next day, when Modi is scheduled to visit Bengaluru. The prime minister will be participating in the valedictory of the BJP's Navakarnataka Parivartana Yatra at Palace Grounds on Sunday.

The Kannada Okkuta had observed Karnataka bandh on January 25.

BJP leader R Ashoka accused the ruling Congress of indirectly supporting Bengaluru bandh in order to prevent people from attending Modi rally. Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy, however, denied the charge. "We have nothing to do with the bandh. We have asked those planning to stage protests to take up the issue with the prime minister," he added.
