Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday night met Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is admitted to the Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre in Mumbai for "treatment of pancreas".

Parrikar, 62, after being "diagnosed for food poisoning" at the Goa Medical College & Hospital, was air-dashed to Mumbai last week and admitted to the Lilavati Hospital where the former defence minister is undergoing treatment under a special team of doctors.

South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, in a press statement issued on Sunday evening, said that on the advice of doctors, Parrikar would continue his "treatment for pancreas" in Mumbai.

"The chief minister's treatment is in the right direction and he is responding to the same. However, he needs sufficient time to recover and be focused on the treatment. Expert doctors are taking care of him," he said.

The budget session of Goa Legislative Assembly commences on Monday and on Tuesday, Parrikar, who is also the finance minister, is expected to table the budget. However, there are doubts whether he would be discharged by then.

A report from Panaji quoting Speaker Pramod Sawant said a business advisory committee meeting has been convened to decide whether the budget session should be curtailed to three days.

Meanwhile, reacting to reports of Parrikar suffering from a life-threatening disease, the hospital formally issued a denial. "It has been brought to our notice that various malicious and misleading reports/rumours are floating around in the print/electronic media with regards to the health of the chief minister of Goa. We categorically deny all such rumours. We reiterate that the chief minister is being treated and is responding well to the treatment," Lilavati Hospital vice-president Ajaykumar Pande said.
