Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh's outstanding fondness for horses became even more evident during his visit to the state police academy on Wednesday.

His concern for Sunny Kid, one of the horses gifted by a former Pakistan Punjab chief minister, became writ large. Capt Singh made it a point to meet Sunny Kid, whom he remembered having injured his leg some time back.

The ones who have visited the sprawling palace of Capt Amarinder Singh in Patiala would have seen horses in numbers trotting in the open periphery of the palace. Capt's concern for Sunny Kid has a cross-border connection with Pakistan. It was some 14 years ago, during his visit to Pakistan in his previous stint as Punjab CM, Capt Amarinder had received an unusual, albeit, attractive gift from his counterpart in Pakistan Punjab, Pervaiz Elahi. It was a mighty horse, named Sultan.

Sadly, the horse had to be quarantined on his arrival in India and did not survive long. Elahi was evidently disappointed that his gift to Capt Amarinder Singh had not lasted long. The former Pakistan CM then decided to replace it with another horse named Sunny Kid. Elahi's gift charmed Amarinder and he immediately fell in love with the new horse.

Nostalgic event

Capt felt that the horse was extraordinary and would need special care and training, which is when he handed over the big horse to the care of expert trainers at the Punjab Police Academy (PPA). On Wednesday, the long overdue reunion between Capt and his dear horse Sunny Kid turned a nostalgic event. He took special interest in the horse that he still remembered got hurt in the leg. Officials said, Sunny Kid was the first one the CM inquired about the moment he reached PPA in the morning.
