The Forest department will name the anti-tiger poaching centre at Nagarahole Wildlife Sanctuary after Manikandan, an IFS officer who was trampled to death by a wild tusker while on duty. Manikandan was the director of Narahole Tiger Project.
In a condolence meeting held at the project director's office on Tuesday, the forest officials said that a watchtower being constructed at Veeranahosahalli range will also be named after the slain IFS officer.
Maria Christaraj, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Wildlife division, Virajpet, has been appointed as the new Project Tiger Director.
