Work on a foot overbridge connecting Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (Bengaluru City) railway station's Platform Number 10 with the city railway metro station is in the final stages. The bridge could open to the public in June, officials say.

The railways has received funds due from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for the bridge's construction, said R S Saxena, Divisional Railway Manager, SWR, Bengaluru. "The fabrication work is in progress. We will finish the project by June," he added.

To a question, Saxena said a ticket counter would be set up on the bridge before commuters enter the station premises. "But we expect more people to book tickets on the UTS app instead of lining up at the counter," he added.

Walking between the Kempegowda (Majestic) metro station and the KSR railway station entails using a 450-metre-long subway and negotiating the stinking garbage. The bridge will provide the best connectivity between metro and railway stations considering the shorter distance (250 metres) as well as the hassle-free walkway.

While there is a provision for building an escalator, sources said no lift had been planned to get on the bridge.

BMRCL Director (Rolling Stock, Signalling and Electrical) N M Dhoke said they had already placed an order for an escalator. "Since the escalator has to be designed for the specific requirement, we have initiated the process in this regard. The civil work is still going on and we will look into the provision or lift," he said.

The Rs 2-crore bridge is being funded by the BMRCL while the railways has taken care of construction. "The subway will be thrown open to the public once the railways finishes its part of the work," the BMRCL's chief public relations officer U A Vasanth Rao said.
