Financier, 68, smothered to death

A 68-year-old financier was smothered to death at his house in Devasandra near KR Puram by unidentified assailants.

Sanjay Sathish alias Shailesh, a native of Uttar Pradesh, has been residing in the city for the past 30 years.

Taking note of the foul smell emanating from his flat, the house owner used the duplicate key to open Shailesh's door and found his decomposed body. The police suspect that Shailesh could have been killed five days ago.

The attackers had bound his hands and legs and pressed a pillow to his face and killed him before locking the door from the outside and fleeing the place, said the police, who are checking the CCTV footage for clues into the identities of Shailesh's killers.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Shailesh had married a local woman, but divorced her after seven years. He then married for the second time and stayed in Malleswaram. Now his wife and son, a software engineer, are settled in New Zealand.
