A 59-year-old man has been arrested for conning a school principal and teachers out of their gold jewellery. He won the trust of his victims by claiming to be an alumnus of their school.

In January, Abdul Khader, of KG Halli, visited a school in HAL and met the principal by posing as an alumnus. He said that as a matter of gratitude, he wanted to gift saris to teachers. He kept his words by gifting them saris stolen from SM Silks store in Ganganagar. This way, he got close to the staff. In mid-February, he approached the principal again, saying he liked the gold chain and bangles she was wearing and would love to gift his daughter jewellery of the same make for her upcoming marriage. He borrowed the jewellery from the principal by promising to return it after showing it to a jeweller, but never showed up, a senior police officer.

In another incident, he visited a school in Shivajinagar and offered free facial to all teachers. When they agreed, he got their jewellery removed. He did facial on them but asked them not to open their eyes for at least an hour. In the meantime, he disappeared, the officer added.

The RT Nagar police arrested him following complaints. They seized Rs 1.8 lakh worth of jewellery from him. A magistrate has remanded him in judicial custody.
