Congress politicising issue of siteless people: Horata Samithi

Congress is engaged in politicising the issue of siteless people without chalking out any programmes for providing houses for the poor in the last five years, Niveshanarahithara Horata Samithi president Prabhavathi Bolooru said.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, she said, "For the last four years, the CPM has been engaged in bringing together poor siteless people by forming a Horata Samithi and has been demanding sites and houses for poor." Owing to the series of protests and agitation by the Horata Samithi, the authorities earmarked sites at Shakthinagara, Kannagudde, Idya and Vamanjoor for the poor siteless.

The Horata Samithi had laid siege on the MCC, MLA's office, Bengaluru Chalo, 24-hour protest, 24-hour fasting, day and night protest for 72 hours, one-day stay at Shakthinagara, Surathkal Chalo, Jail bharo and so on. It was only with all these protests that there is now a ray of hope for the poor siteless in the form of authorities earmarking the sites, she said.

She said there are ineligible beneficiaries in the selected list. The process of distribution of sites will be complete only after the tender process is completed and MCC earmarks funds for the construction of houses. Beneficiaries should deposit their share in the bank account. Without completing the process, the MLA allotted the door numbers to the beneficiaries in a programme at Town Hall a few months ago.

Further, only the photocopy of title deeds were given to the beneficiaries, she claimed. The Niveshanarahithara Horata Samithi has convened a meeting on April 15. Fearing that the poor siteless will reject Congress, the Congress leaders are engaging in levelling allegations.
