H1N1: Dutch national quarantined

According to officials in the State health department, Peter, around 39 years of age, arrived at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) at 1 am on Monday by a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt. He is said to have boarded the flight at the Netherlands.

Usha Vasunkar, Director of Health Services, said the patient was admitted with cough and fever. “Samples of throat swab have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. Results are expected on Tuesday,” said Vasunkar.

According to sources, Peter is a chemical engineer working for Shell Petroleum. He had come to India to train Shell employees. Peter was brought to the Institute at 4 am with throat congestion and cough.

So far, 21 suspected cases of H1N1 flu have been screened at the institute. Of them, 11 were treated as inpatients and 10 as outpatients. Around 15 throat swabs were sent to Institutes at Pune and New Delhi for testing.
