Rowdy hacked to death in Srirampura

Ravi alias Ponne Ravi (29), staying in Ooty fearing threat to his life from his rivals, was at his father's house in NP Block for appearing before the City Sessions Court in connection with a murder. He was assaulted with machetes by a gang of four to five members when he left home around 9:40 am, police said.

Ravi, a notorious rowdy himself, was reportedly involved in as many as 10 murders, five attempts to murder, and many extortions, etc. in Kamakshipalya, Basaveshwarnagar, Nelamangala, and other areas. Srirampura police have booked a case of murder and are on the look-out for the assailants.

This is second time in a month that an alleged rowdy was hacked to death when he was going to or returning from a court for the hearing of a murder case. Cable Sunil, another rowdy, was chased to death in K P Agrahara on April 23 when he was returning home after attending a hearing in a court.

According to a senior police officer, absence of enough protection around gangsters during their visit to or return from public places is considered a "good opportunity" by their rivals to take revenge.  He, however, said that internecine killing of rowdies had declined this year.

Labourer murdered

A 22-year-old construction labourer from Jharkhand died when he was hit on the head with an iron rod allegedly by his colleague after a spat between them in Nelamangala near here on Wednesday night.

Prashant Pandit was murdered allegedly by his co-worker Roop Singh (25), also of Jharkand. Police are on the look-out for Singh.

Two held for thefts

The Vijayanagar police arrested Murugesh and Umapathy, both from Vellore district in Tamil Nadu and recovered jewellery worth Rs four lakh.

The two men would identify locked houses during late evenings and strike at nights. They had burgled houses in Chandra Layout, Vijayanagar, Basaveshwar Nagar, Mahadevapura and Ramamurthy Nagar. They would sell the stolen goods in Thirupattur  and Perundorai towns, police added.

Boy killed in accident

A seven-year-old boy was killed on the spot when he came under the rear wheel of a water tanker near Kateramma temple in Whitefield area on Thursday.  Chandu was playing, when the driver, after discharged the water at the temple reversed the vehicle without noticing the boy. He fled after the accident, police added.
