JOIN USThe deceased Nagaraj Naik of Hubli, was a second division clerk at Divisional Office, South Western Railway, Hubli.
Police said Naik and Vinayati met while studying in a college in Hubli and were in love for the past few years. However, Vinayati had not consented to Naik’s frequent pleas for marriage.
Vinayati came to the city recently to participate in an aeronautical training camp in Jayanagar and was staying in a PG accommodation in the same area. Naik came to the city on Tuesday night and both stayed at the railway station’s rest house.
Parents’ consent
In a complaint, Vinayati stated that she had told Nagaraj that she would marry him only after her parents’ consent. On several occasions in the past, Nagaraj had threatened to commit suicide if she did not marry him, she added.
At around 3 am Vinayati woke up after she heard a scream and found Nagaraj's body hanging from the ceiling.
Nagaraj was taken to a hospital after Vinayati informed the police, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. A case has been registered.
