Laine's book on Shivaji will not be reprinted

Last Updated 12 July 2010, 19:14 IST

This was disclosed on Monday by Maharashtra home minister R R Patil, who claimed that he received a letter from OUP’s India Managing Director Manzar Khan, assuring the state government that the publishing house would not be printing more copies of the book.

The publication of the book had evoked strong reactions in Maharashtra three years back and the book was eventually banned by the state government. After the SC order, the state has set up a three-member panel of legal experts to advise it to take necessary action to ensure that the book is neither printed nor sold in the state.

“OUP India has no intention of coming out with a fresh publication on Laine’s book pursuant to the judgment of the Supreme Court,” Khan said.
